NEC has completed the Asia Direct Cable (ADC), a 10,000 km submarine cable connecting six key regions in Asia. With over 160 Tbps capacity, it supports 5G, IoT, and AI technologies, setting a new standard for connectivity.
Big news for Asia’s digital future! NEC Corporation has officially announced the completion of the Asia Direct Cable (ADC), a state-of-the-art submarine cable system connecting China (including Hong Kong and Guangdong Province), Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. This game-changing cable is set to handle the region's rapidly growing demand for reliable and high-speed communication.
What Makes the ADC Cable Special?
The ADC cable system spans an impressive 10,000 kilometers and boasts cutting-edge technology capable of transmitting over 160 terabits per second (Tbps) of data. This makes it one of the most advanced cable systems in the region, providing high-capacity, low-latency connections that power today’s most demanding technologies like 5G, cloud computing, IoT (Internet of Things), and AI (Artificial Intelligence).
Owned by the ADC consortium, which includes some of Asia’s top telecommunications players like China Telecom, China Unicom, SoftBank, Singtel, PLDT, Viettel, Tata Communications, and Thailand’s NT, this project is a huge step forward for the region.
Why This Matters
The ADC cable isn’t just about fast internet—it’s about building the foundation for future innovation. With its massive data capacity and reliable performance, it’s designed to meet the ever-growing needs of businesses and communities across East and Southeast Asia.
Koji Ishii, Chairman of the ADC Consortium, highlighted this milestone:
“This cable is a critical achievement. It supports the growing demand for communication in Asia and beyond while laying the groundwork for future technologies. None of this would have been possible without the strong partnership among all stakeholders, including NEC. We believe this system will significantly contribute to the region’s AI and technology industries.”
Meanwhile, Billy Li, Co-Chairman of the ADC Consortium, added:
“NEC has delivered on its promise. The ADC cable provides unmatched capacity and diversity for major data hubs in Asia. This enables telecom operators to optimize their networks and services for sustainable growth.”
A Bright Future for Asia
The completion of the ADC cable marks a new chapter for connectivity in Asia. It’s not just about faster internet—it’s about creating opportunities, enhancing digital infrastructure, and enabling future technologies that will shape our world. From businesses to communities, this cable will benefit everyone by driving innovation and improving the quality of life across the region.
